Morning Musume tops Oricon back to back

Japanese girl group Morning Musume’s latest single Brainstorming / Kimi Sae Ireba Nani mo Iranai has topped the Oricon chart in its debut week.

This is the first time in more than a decade that the group has managed two consecutive chart topping singles, with previous release Help Me!! (January 2013) reaching the #1 spot on the sales chart as well.

Ex-Morning Musume create new Dream team

Ten of Morning Musume’s OG members held an event on Friday to reveal that they have launched a new group called Dream Morning Musume.

The participating members are Yuko Nakazawa (37), Kaori Iida (29), Natsumi Abe (29), Kei Yasuda (30), Mari Yaguchi (28), Rika Ishikawa (26), Hitomi Yoshizawa (25), Makoto Ogawa (23), Miki Fujimoto (25), and Koharu Kusumi (18).

The new unit will hold a spring concert tour, starring on April 23 in Aichi and continue for a total of 16 concerts in 7 locations, including Tokyo, Osaka, Hyogo, Kanagawa, and Hiroshima.

Japanese all girls pop group Morning Musume is in popularity crisis. Their recent singles are not doing well in sales, and their long running variety show Haromoni@ (sequel to Hello! Morning) is doing so poor that TV Tokyo has decided to end the show on Sept 28.
