Red Cliff, directed by John Woo, has created a new box office record for being the first Chinese movie to break the RMB300 million barrier (~ USD44 million) in China.

The movie, the most expensive ever produced in Chinese movie history, is based on the epic battle during the Three Kingdoms era in ancient China. The movie is made into two episodes, and the sequel (scheduled to show in January 2009) is expected to hit high note as well.
